... means literally "being smart", like in "analyze complex things quickly" or "determine a suitable solution to a logical problem".
In contrast to Wisdom, having a great deal of knowledge about something but have no moral affection does imply you are smart, but you don't have to be wise.
Also, a very wise man has not to be smart, life explains stuff differently than a scholar, and you don't need to calculate anything to have a proper set of morals.
